Writing homework

In order for children to master the craft of writing, they need to be able to formulate grammatically accurate sentences that create a desired effect on the reader.

Children are set writing homework each week to practise specific sentence types.  They are given a picture to write the sentences about.  This homework is mapped out for the year, with the sentence types and picture prompts compiled in a document that can be found in the sidebar on the left.

Also on the left is a list, including examples, of the sentence types that children will be practising.

Children will write their homework sentences in their homework book.

Chidlren will write two sentences a day for five days each week - one of each type described in the plan.

Children will write the sentences neatly and check that they are punctuated correctly.

Please speak to your child's class teacher if you have queries about writing homework.
