Comic Relief - 15th March - TALENT SHOW
In the fortnight before the Talent Show, each year group held auditions to view all their acts in order to choose a balanced selection of their best talent to perform in the Talent Show on Red Nose Day. Six acts from Year 5 were chosen and below you can see a photo of each performance.

The act voted by the judges to be the winner in year 5 was "Lord of the Dance" played by Luke H, Ben O, Florence R and Reuben. (See the first picture on the top row above. Reuben is playing the piano and so unfortunately can't be seen!)
Please see the Whole School Events page (in the Pupil drop down menu) for the report of our Comic Relief day and to see all of the photos from the Talent Show which are in a photo album at the bottom of that page.
All the acts were also videoed. These will not be available on the website but we hope to make them available for viewing at our school Open Day in July.
Role Play - Toad's Trial - Wed 6th and Friday 8th March

On Wednesday 6th and Friday 8th March half of Year 5 went to Henley River and Rowing Museum while the other half of Year 5 stayed in school for a Wind in the Willows themed day.
We listened to a Wind in The Willows story and then each painted a mask from a choice of Mole, Ratty, Badger and Toad.
We were divided into groups to plan our Courtroom Role play and then the Toads were put on trial for a driving offence.
In the afternoon we wrote a letter from Ratty to Toad who was in jail.
Please see the photo album at the bottom of the page for photos of the role play on Friday (5A and half of 5R).
Visit to Henley River and Rowing Museum - Wed 6th and Friday 8th March

As part of our Rivers topic this term, all of year 5 visited this the River and Rowing Museum in Henley in two separate trips: 5A and half of 5R went on Wednesday 6th March (see photo above) and 5B and the other half of 5R went on Friday 8th March (see photo below). The Wednesday trip were lucky to have a dry day. Unfortunately it rained a lot before and on the Friday.

There were three main actiivities, each taking about an hour:
* a guided walk along the river Thames to the lock and back. The photo to the left shows the plaques on the lock keeper's cottage that indicate the flood levels in 1894, 1947 and 2003 compared to the level of the river on Wednesday.
* a session in the Science room doing experiments to learn about rivers, flood plains, erosion, permeable and impermeable layers, transportation, deposition etc
* exploring the three galleries dedicated to Rowing, Rivers and the history of Henley on Thames.
The photos from both trips are now available in albums at the bottom of this page.

WEATHER REPORTER’S VISIT
Hello, and welcome to the Courthouse website. Here we are telling you about Peter’s visit. He works for the BBC International weather reports. The first thing he did when we walked in was introduce himself. Next he did a slide show telling us about all the weather gear he uses and all the types of clouds. There were lots of types of clouds such as Cumulus clouds, Cumulonimbus clouds, Altocumulus clouds which Benjamin guessed and got it right.
He then asked if he could have two adults and one child (Emily, Mr. Knight and Miss. Americanos.) He then said how to make your own report. Peter said that Mr. Knight lives in Newbury, Miss Americanos lives in Reading and Emily lives in Maidenhead. (Emily does live in Maidenhead.) He then said it was raining in Newbury and Mr Knight had put it up on Face book. Miss Americanos then went to do her shopping but it was raining an hour after Mr. Knight posted it so she went inside and put it was raining on Face book. But Emily was still on Face book so she looked at Mr. Knight’s and Miss. Americanos’ page and she was clever about it. So then when she went out to do her shopping she took an umbrella. Each time it rained Peter used water in a spray bottle to demonstrate the rain.
Thankyou for reading this we hope you enjoy!!

Next, with a partner, we designed our own game roughly based on Snakes and Ladders but with a Tudor theme.

Then we made the game and wrote detailed instuctons on how to play the game.

Finally, we played our own game and some of the other games by carefully following the instructions.
Please see the Related Documents side bar on the left to view a pdf file containing a readable view of two of the games.
