ICT - MAKING ANIMATIONS
For the last few weeks of this term we have been making sports animations using Logomotion.
On the left is Maryam's animation. She is canoeing along then lands on the shore. Night approaches, the sun goes down and the moon rises. So she fries some fish for supper by moonlight.
Below there are a few more of our animations.

Science - SOUND - Making and testing string telephones - 13th March

In Science we have been studying sound, including how sound travels. We made string telephones to find out if sound travels along the string. We tried using our telephones out in the playground and we found that the telephones worked better when the string was taut and also that we had to be careful to make sure one person was speaking while their partner was listening! We also tried multiway connections with some success and a few tangled phones.
To view all the photos please go to the album at the bottom of the page.

In class we wrote some poems about the snow. Here are three of our poems all entitled "Snow":

Visit to Hampton Court Palace

Recently, the whole of Year 5 visited Hampton Court Palace. Each class enjoyed a booked kitchen tour and spent the rest of the time exploring the palace in groups.
On Tuesday the 27th November Year 5 went on a phenomenal school trip to Hampton Court Palace and had a palace-load of fun! First, 5B went into the kitchens with its VERY realistic plastic/clay models of food and colossal fireplaces; we could even fit the whole year group in one of them. They weren’t lit (sadly). Shubang got to turn the spit over one of the fires. (That one was lit.) There were tapestries that easily covered whole walls; but they were nothing compared to the colossal painting by an oak stairway that covered 3 walls and the ceiling! (This was about 15-20m by 20-25m!)
Name: Hampton Court Palace
Bus Time: 1 hour each way
Trip Symbol (what it was like):
Trip Rating: 7 ½/10

Please see our photos of the trip in the Hampton Court album at the bottom of this page.
5B Assembly - 21st November

Our assembly was all about Heathy eating and exercise. Some of us demonstrated the sport that we do regularly. Here is some more information about our sports.

Football is a good sport because it helps your daily exercise. It is one of the most popular sports in the world. It is a great sport to play with your friends. You run around a lot to help you be fit.

I like ballet because it is calm. Ballet is held in the hall. The children there are nice. I’ve been doing ballet for a year. Sometimes we do bar work.

We play at Maidenhead Lawn Tennis Club. Tennis is a sport for all the family. You can do many strokes in tennis. For your serve you need to use the chopper grip so then the ball will spin to the left corner.
We have been playing Tennis for about five years. Tennis strengthens your arms, legs, hands and feet. Here are the tennis strokes.
Forehand, backhand, (these are your ground strokes), backhand slice, forehand slice, backhand and forehand volley, serve, and loads more! You use the c-shape to put more power on the ball.

My sport is kickboxing. I like my sport because it keeps me fit and strong. Also when I go to secondary school I won’t get bullied.
I’ve been doing kickboxing since I was three years old and this is what we do:
-
We run from one side to the other side of the room ten times.
-
We have to practise our punches.
-
We have to find a partner.
-
Once we have a partner we have to find a space and then we put our gloves and head guard on then we start fighting.

I have done judo for only 1 year. Judo is a very complex sport. Judo is known to be in the family of Martial arts. Martial arts have lots of sports such as: karate; judo, boxing, kick boxing, taekwondo, etc. In judo you cannot do things like head-locks. No, we have to do throws like the aeroplane throw and holds like the clasp-your-hands-together hold. You can also get higher grades in judo. For example there are stripes you can get: yellow; orange, green, blue, brown, black. You also get belts the same colours as the stripes apart from red belt and white belt. Judo is also good because you use most of your body. Judo is very good for you because it keeps you fit.

Tudor Dancing

This term in PE we have been learning about dancing in the Tudor times, not just the steps but also about posture and how people would move in the heavy clothes worn in those days. We have been taught some dances and then in groups we have made up our own dance routines in the Tudor style which we performed to the rest of the class on Wednesday 10th October.
The photos in the album at the bottom of the page show some photos of us at the beginning of the term then some photos of us performing our own Tudor dance routines.
